General Surgery

General surgery is the specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of surgical conditions of the abdomen, as well as other surgical conditions, subject of other specialties, which require special techniques, such as traumatisms, vascular, genital, urological, thoracic, endocrine, neurosurgical affections, oncological surgery, etc.

Surgery is a branch of medicine that, for the healing of the patient, uses operative interventions to remove the affected viscera either partially or completely, or to repair it, or, more rarely, to replace it (joint prosthetic, vascular prosthetic, replacement of the diseased organ).

The word surgery is derived from the Greek word for "to mould." Today the term is no longer appropriate because the surgeon not only performs manual, physical work, but must have a multilateral approach and be very adequately prepared (laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery).
